Excursions around Lake Thun Area

You have the possibility to visit and explore nearby Castle Oberhofen and close your visit with a drink, or aim further and get up to one of the mountains around Lake Thun such as the Niesen, Niederhorn or even the Jungfraujoch. You like Swiss traditions : visit the show cheese making factory in the Emmental. You can also enjoy a boat trip on Lake Thun or join one of the many outdoor activities in ther area;  try one of the bikes that can be obtained at the hotel.

This visit is a must for people who like arts. At present, the important Painting-Exhibition Suter with its marvellous paintings attracts visitors from all over the world.

Excursion to the Niederhorn

After reaching Beatenbucht (about 15 min. from the hotel) and a ride in a cable car up to the Niederhorn you will find yourself yourself in the hart of the mountain world.
According to your personal likings, you might sit down for coffee in the nearby mountain restaurant and enjoy the splendid view. However, if you have got up early, a short walk of about 30 min is definitely worthwhile. You will encounter capricorns which are almost accepting food from your hands. A real highlight for the young and less young!

'Home Turf' Niesen

Looking at the panorama from the Park Hotel, you are definitely captured by the Niesen, across the lake, that we consider almost our own. You can reach it's top with the funicular and enjoy from the newly renovated mountain lodge a splendid view, weather permitting, until the french Alps. This year, the legendary Niesen starway-run has been reactivated, definitely a culminating point of the season of a fanatic mountain runner!

Castles around Lake Thun

The nearby Castle of Oberhofen shows its splendour. A tour across the unique castle park will will enjoy a gardeners heart. Also, try a visit to the Castle of Hünegg which presents each year many interesting exhibitions. In this castle, you will get the impression that the former inhabitants might return every moment. Another excursion might lead you to the Castle of Spiez. Being in the look-out of the castle's tower you feel like having made a step backwards into times when the owner had to defend their belongings and their lives.

Attractive hiking trails around the Park Hotel Oberhofen

All around Lake Thun a hiking trail network of the century is about to emerge. Six suspended bridges have been constructed with spans up to 340 m and heights of 180 m above ground. They are gently embedded in the landscape and offer nature lovers completely new perspectives. Owing to modern construction techniques the hiker can cross ditches and canyons simply and safely. Each hike becomes an unforgettable experience, without having to overcome important level differences.

The panorama trail, unique in Europe, leads through a mostly untouched landscape and offers a view on a breathtaking Alpine panomrama and down to the deep blue Lake Thun and also calls on historic places and impressive caves.
